small gestational sac

small gestational sac

This is my first pregnancy.  I went to the doctor for spotting last week.  We saw the heartbeat in the us and all was fine. Said I was about five weeks along.  This week my spotting increased, so I was seen again.  Still a strong heartbeat, but my gestational sac is measuring small.  He says my spotting has nothing to do with this, but that I have a 50 % chance of miscarrying.  I'm supposed to be seen again in two weeks.  My aunt is an ob nurse at another clinic, according to the doctor she works with there is no reason to be worried this early on.  I feel that she may just be sugar coating it so I'll stop worrying.  Does anyone have any experienc with this?

from what i was told every pregnancy has a 50% chance of miscarrying, then once you see a heartbeat that drops dramatically and even moreso after the first trimester. alot of women have spotting in early pregnancy. the doctor telling you that 50% chance was just giving you a statistic. two u/s with heartbeats would say it's probably not much to worry on. brown blood is usually old blood that is just working its way out. red blood is more worrisome

hope everything turns out okay

Smurfies, my experience with small gestational sac isn't a good one. My last pregnancy in Aug 2006 ended in a m/c. I started spotting around 6wks and went to the doctor he did an u/s there was a strong heart beat and he told me he thought the gest. sac was too small for embyro. He didn't tell me anything about miscarriages but he gave me such a condescending look I knew what was going to happy. 6 days later I miscarried. He explained to me that i didn't have a m/c because of the small sac but it's because something was initially wrong with the embryo which caused the sac to be small.
I'm now pregnant again 6wks 4days. I had my first u/s yesterday and he told me that everything is on point. So i'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying.
I hope you don't have to experience what i did. I'm praying for you.

Kay!

Please don't get too nervous. I also posted this same thing several weeks back just to read horror stories that freaked me out.

I had a 6 week ultrasound and the sac was measuring a week behind the baby....they scheduled me for another 2 weeks later. At my 8 week one...the sac was still measuring a week behind the baby. However...the baby was growing AND the sac was growing which is what is important. As long as it keeps growing and doesn't stop while the baby grows my doctor said not to worry.

I'm now 13 weeks I haven't had another ultrasound since 8 weeks but they didn't think it was necessary. All is looking well!

Good luck!

My spotting was brown, but it has started to be red.  Today there is a lot more and it is bright red. My doctor told me Tuesday to call him if I've soaked through a pad, I haven't done that yet..but the bright red can't be good.  I'm way worried.

My sac was measuring too small (2 weeks behind of baby) I was told I would prob miscarry but did not. By 13 weeks the sac caught up and I had a healthy baby girl. I did not ever spot or bleed, though.

I am sorry you are going through this. I know how stressful it is.
