Smoking cigarettes or marijuanaDrug abuse can also effect a woman's ability to conceive on her end as well as it can inhibit ovulation and prevent implantation in some cases.
As Peek mentioned, it certainly should not be used as a form of BC though as many, many couples have been heavy smokers, both of marijuana and cigarettes and gone on to produce many children.
It also can have a strong effect on the ability to conceive a child if someone gets arrested for smoking dope. (Not to mention that Children's Protective Services takes a dim view of parents who smoke dope.) Ironic remarks aside, if you want to be a daddy or a mommy, responsible for another person's life and role model for them also, it might be the time to stop marijuana use unless you live in a country where it is legal. You don't have to be a mommy or a daddy, if smoking dope is more important to you, go right ahead. But babies and drug use just truly don't mix. Good luck!
If there is an effect, it is probably very small. If you are male, and smoke pot, you certainly still could father a child.
