sparkler burn

by kellym, Jul 05, 2009 09:17AM
Yep, I was the mom whom let her almost 3 year old hold a sparkler and her 1 year old came up and grabbed it.  He got 3 burns on his inner palm. One on his thumb and the other two were where his hand closed on the fatty part below the pointer. There are 2 burns about 1/2" long.  I know not to pop them and they are just white liquid filled blisters right now.  I think I will be okay if I can keep them from popping or does anyone think I need to take him in to the Dr? I think they will just say keep an eye on them because infection is the main concern.  He is 13 mo's so not so much luck keeping them covered but not so sure that is best anyways.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you should take him to the doc he may need a prescription.

Sounds as if it's at least a 2nd degree burn. Obviously, once it pops, he's prone to infection.

A call to the pedi surely wouldn't hurt.

You might see if they have some OTC products to protect burns.

I'm sorry, that happened.. but try not to blame yourself too much.. I probably would have done the same thing..

I would call the doctor just to make sure no infection occurs!

The wounds opened and I took him to the Doc. She said I should keep it covered until Thursday ;)  She gave me some great bandaids that fit the whole wound and seem to stay on really well despite him spending several minutes trying to master taking it off!

Awww, poor baby.  I hope, well, I'm sure he'll heal very quickly.
