strangled by the umbilical cord

strangled by the umbilical cord

what happens if the baby got strangled by the umbilical cord twice on the neck and when the baby came out he was still alive but very very weak. will the baby survive healthy? or will there be any other complications?

hard to tell.. my baby came out with the cord around her neck they cut it off before she was all the way out.. she needed O2 but was/is fine.. others have had babies die.. it just depends how long the O2 was cut off from the brain...  did this happen to you or are you just worried?

Oh my! I hope this is not happening to your baby as we speak! Just like Meli said it all depends on the situation.

Did your OB tell that your babies cord is wrapped? This happened to my friend when she was 37wks and she had to have an emergency c-section.

I truly hope your baby is okay and this is just a "what-if" question!

I hope you aren't going thru this...as the above gals have said, it really depends on each situation.  Your Dr. will be the best person to check with.  Carson came out with the cord around his neck 3 times, they also had to cut it when his head came out- before they could deliver his body.  He did not score well on the apgar & did not cry, he looked startled & color was not great.  They were watching him as he did well thru labor until the end- I was on oxygen & the NICU team was present at the birth.  (I thought it was normal to have a full room of people, until my second birth, that was calm, quiet & uneventful).  Carson was great after they worked on him a little & was fine.  I think they worked so much on him because he swallowed amniotic fluid as he came out- he was face up.  TAlk to your Dr., but babies are tougher than you would think.  TAke care.

the ladies are right...every situation is different. my eli was born all twisted up in his AND his brothers cords. (the kid never quit moving...even when i was in labor he was still somersaulting around in there.) his cord was wrapped around his ankle while brett's was around his neck. luckily the one around his neck had JUST happened and they were able to get it off before anything happened.

definitely talk to your ob about it. get a plan ready in case something happens and pay close attention to babies movements. if you get worried that something is wrong DO NOT hesitate going to the er!

There's no way to know 100%, only time can tell.  I have to say though that whoever this happened to (or may have it happen) is fortunate that it was caught.  I lost my first son due to cord strangulation in utero. I had my normal appt the day before and all was fine, heartbeat was great.  Went into labor the next day and when we arrived at the hospital there was no heartbeat.  He had the cord around his neck twice.

I myself was born with the cord around my neck twice, it was tight but not enough to prevent the doctor from using forceps.

all pregnant moms this is a hurtful thing always always keep up with your baby movements. i just lost my baby boy Camryn to the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck 4 times. i was 7 and a half months when i found out and it had just happened all in one day. i was so hurt about loosing my baby. but we shall not question god about the things that he do. Camryn is now mommies little guardian angel. i miss him very much. but anyone who want to talk about loosing their baby look up a web sit called H.A.N.D. (houstons aid in neonatal death) www.hand.net it helped me alot even when i was in the hospital. it very helpful check it out.

Please check every day... Insist on a sonar. rather safe then sorry.  Last Monday the 30th May my daughter age 22 lost our first grandchild on 33 and 1/2 week cause of aumbilical cord.  Thursday she did not feel baby.. on friday also not... after work she went to hospital and they monitord baby.. the heart beat was not right so they told her to go and eat something then come back because it helps with baby's heartbeat.  so she went and ate and came back. they monitord her for 3 hours and baby's heartbeat came right. my daughter asked for a sonar and they sais that their was no one that could work the sonar... they send her home and assured her that all was well and thet baby's heartbeat is now normal.  On monday she went to the doctor and when he put the sonar on their was a fint heartbeat.  they rushed her into have a cecering and baby was born dead.  my daughter is devastated.. and as a mother it is killing me to see her like this... we are strugling.... Please make sure.....
