swimming in early pregnancy

is it safe to swim while pregnant? i went to the pool yesterday and it was very hot i couldnt resist the water, so i went in the pool for 5 min. my dh got very very upset when he found out, he thinks it is not safe because it was too cold and he blames me for being irresponsible...especially that it took us alot of time and efforts to get pregnant!
what do you ladies think?

Cant see any harm in it unless its a hot tub, or your trainning for the olympics and swimming 500 metre dash...
No it probably is soothing relaxing
And beside lots have their babies now under water So if there was something about it Delivery would be the last you would try in water

I can understand where your DH is coming from though.  FOr some reason I am very nervous about swimmming.  I want to wait till I am farther along.  I am scared of all the stuff in the water - yuck!  Ask him if thats what worries him too?

I'd find a couple of articles online (should be easy enough) to show your dh about the MANY benefits of exercising while pregnant, and swimming specifically. Swimming and walking are the two of the best bets, because they are low impact and help improve your cardio condition. I appreciate dh is probably just being an overly nervous daddy to be, but be sure to tell him pregnancy and labour will be LOTS harder if you don't exercise at all.
Unless there is a reason your Dr gives you not to, I'd say swim away!

Around here they offer specific pre-natal swimming/water aerobic classes... so it's obviously  not bad for you. It's low-impact and good exercise.  I swam in a lake with my first preg and it was just fine.  I understand that if hte water were EXTREMELY hot or cold that it might not be that healthy-- but a normal dip inthe lake or the pool is good for you!
