?thyroid problem

by bboy, Aug 11, 2003 12:00AM
Ever since the birth of my 11mos old baby I have had problems with my menstruation.  I didnt get a period for two months after the birth of my child (and I didnt breastfeed) and then when I did get my period it was very, very heavy and more frequent.  In the last couple of months it has been more regular but continues to be very heavy.  Before I conceived I had light periods.  I also feel exhausted most of the time.  I have lost 30pnds in the last three months, but now my weight has just stayed the same no matter what I do. I also have no appetite. My skin has changed drastically as well- very dry, scaly skin on my head (almost like cradle cap)to almost acne like on my upper arms. My mother was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and my grandmother also has thyroid disease. Im just wondering if what I am experiencing is normal after a baby or should I be seeing my PCP.

Given the family history, I would strongly suggest getting in and getting some lab work done.

Hope it goes well!!

Hi there Bboy...

Your body's been through ALOT lately.. Big blood loss, rapid weight loss... Both of which may contribute to appetite and energy changes...

Without a doubt, go to the doctor's.. You have so many things going on, it would be hard for any of us to tell..

In the meantime.. Get your iron, get your rest, and take care of yourself.
