too much milk

by twiceadopt, Jun 22, 2007 12:00AM
Hi - baby's about 11 wks old now and i'm still having problems with the milk supply (though i think we've more or less mastered breastfeeding itself) Basically, i seem to make enough to feed an army. i need to leave her one day a week for work so i started pumping (just one side once a day.. i dont seem to get much out if i pump after she eats). within a day of starting to pump, my boobs are getting really full/hard/painful to the point where i can pump 6-7oz out of each side in about 5 minutes, as fast as the pump can get it out. what can i do to avoid this? i pump at work (the day she's not with me) and that milk is almost enough to get her through for the next time, but i do need to pump a couple other times during the week. Cabbage leaves help with the engorgement later, but what could i do to prevent the engorgement altogether? thanks in advance-

as i lost my baby, i didn't want to have milk, it really hurt physically and emotionally for me because there is no body to feed, so my friend (nurse in the RedCross), she told me to use a large soft fabric and tied it around my bb's and really tieing it in a form to push them up, and then put my bras on the highest level, and the milk last for like 3 days and then nothing. and don't put hot water when taking a shower. i hope i could let my idea go thru u

Hi, glad to hear nursing is coming along.  I don't have any great words of wisdom....I think the supply will just regulate itself soon, mine always did.

How are you other kids adjusting to a new baby in the house?

And I havn't seen one picture of this child.......

sorry for your loss, nermine.
from what i've heard, wearing a tight bra might clog another duct - that, i dont want.
