u/s saw a gest. sac but no yolk sac or fetal pole

by JenLove, Oct 14, 2006 12:00AM
AHH! I know this question has been posted fifty times before, but I need some answers and/or support!! I went in on Thursday for my first o.b. appointment. They did an u/s which confirmed a gestational sac but no yolk sac or fetal pole was visible. My first day of last period was aug. 20 which would make me around 7 and 1/2 weeks but the gestational sac in the u/s only measured me to be 5 weeks. I have another appointment in 2 weeks. I still have BADDD morning sickness (which should be called all day sickness) and tender breasts. Is it just too early for them to see anything? I have a tilted uterus, as well, could that be a factor in seeing anything? HELLLLP!!

It could be possible that it is too early to really see anything.  You may very well only be 5 weeks, and at 5 weeks they can't see too much.  I too have a tilted uterus and in the early part of my pg I have to have a transvaginal ultrasound so they can see things more clearly.  When you go to see the DR ask for a transvag for your next ultrasound.  Don't panic, you still have pg symptoms so that is a good sign.  Good luck:)

Oh, I'm sorry that your u/s went that way.  Sometimes people just ovulated later than they thought, I've read that on here before.  If you are really at 5 weeks then it probably is too early to see anything.  I did get to see my son at 6 weeks and 2 or 3 days, can't remember which now, but all we could see was a blinking dot.  On the other hand I did have a blighted ovum, just an empty sac, but did not have an u/s done till 11 weeks and I also had bad morning sickness with that one, as with all of my pregnancies.  I know it's hard, but hang in there and hopefully you will see something next time.  If you are 7 weeks when you go back in you should be able to see something, that's probably why they make you wait so long.  I just wanted to wish you good luck, and just try not to stress too much, just know that there is a possibility that something may go wrong, but you still have some time to wait it out.  Hope the 2 weeks fly by, take care.

You could ask to have your hcg tested by blood test to see if it is doubling every 2 days (you'd have to go in twice at least to lab). That would give you some information long before the next appt., and it would tell them too if you're high enough to expect to see something (I think after 2000 they can visualize sac, etc.). 2 weeks is a long time to wait not knowing anything; would be for me anyway.  Best wishes to you.

Good luck to you. I'm in a similar situation. My LMP was 8/29. My husband I thought we conceived on 9/15 or 9/19 (and we don't think it could have been after as I was away for a while then had relatives in town). If going by LMP, it would have made us 7 weeks pregnant yesterday. When I went in for an U/S yesterday, at first the tech said 4 weeks, but the doc. told me 5 weeks pregnant by the time I left. I had a blighted ovum in April, and pray it doesn't happen again. The gest. sac was there, and a possible yolk sac. I took blood, got results of 7,159hcg back today, but the nurse who called said this doesn't really mean much. I'm now just praying that my cycles are 35-42 days and that we conceived a few days after the 19th. It's possible, but I'm still scared to death. The waiting is so hard.

I'm really scared it's my first pregnancy and according to my dates i'm 7 weeks, but my first u/s said 4weeks and only a gest sac was visable. I had blood test done and my levels were fine and doubled in 48 hours.11 days later i had another u/s done because i had light bleeding which lasted not even a hour, there was still no yolk sac visable the doctor did more blood test which came back fine but told me to expect a misscarrige because a yolk sac should be visable by now. There ganna retest my blood again thursday. I still have symptoms of pregnancy. No one will give me a straight anwser i'm so completely confussed and scared. HELP
