update... low hcg levels

by kiesha.b, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
I recently posted a question regarding low hcg levels and blighted ovums at 5 weeks.  I got back a lot of reassuring responses.  Thanx a bunch!!!  Well i had to get more blood drawn yesturday and my hcg level as of yesturday was 9099.  im 5 weeks 6 days today.  They told me my hcg levels were 5000 on the 12th(oct) but today they said they were only 4000.  I dont know the exact number.  Im waiting on the call back from the doctor, i spoke to her nurse who pulled my charts to see if i should still be concerned about a blighted ovum.  I dont seem to be getting the answeres i want.  I have another transvaginal ultrasound on monday the 23rd.  My question is if my levels are still too low (according to the doctors) and nothing is seen in the sac is it safe to say it's a blighted ovum.  I think it's too early.  My husband and i want this Baby so bad.  Im supposed to deploy in May (if not pregnant) and i dont know how i'll cope with that and loosing my baby. How will i tell family, there all sooo happy.  Thats scares me.  I have done some research and my numbers look okay to me.  What do ya'll think.  This HCG thing is stressfull.  I think from now on im not going to go by numbers!! Pray for me!

hcg levels that go down are never a good sign, I'm sorry to say...but there have been success stories on here so you just never know.

at 5 weeks anything is possible...how far along are you suppose to be now?

5 weeks 6 days today.(smile)  what happen was instead of my doctor telling me exact numbers, she rounded to 5000.  Her nurse this morning told me exact numbers and said they were 4 thousand and somethin.  Sorry dont remember exact number. but that was on oct 12th.  As of yesturday the 19th it was 9099.  Does that look okay for how far along i am???

It looks to me like you should be fine. The next couple of weeks should be crucial according to http://www.birth.com.au/class.asp?class=6620&page=8:

Week five is 18-7340, and week six is 1080-56,500.

See the three columns below copied from the above link:
1. Weeks of pregnancy after last period
2. Days after conception
3. HCG level for single baby (mIU/ml or IU/L) :

Week 3  7 0 to 5
Week 4  14 (next period due) 5 to 426
Week 5 21 18 to 7340
Week 6 28  1,080 to 56,500
Weeks 7 to 8 35 to 42 7,650 to 229,000
Weeks 9 to 12 49 to 70 25,700 to 288,000
Weeks 13 to 16 77 to 100 13,300 to 254,000
Weeks 17 to 24  4,060 to 165,400
Weeks 25 to birth of baby  3,640 to 117,000
4 to 6 weeks after birth  Less than 5

so your numbers didn't go down the dr just rounded up.  I think your too early to worry about anything.  wait until the 23rd and to be honest it may be too early then too.  enjoy this time.  as long as your not bleeding or cramping I wouldn't worry...  best of luck,.

I am confused did your levels go down at all.  If they went down, it is not good.  I had a blighted ovum and had m/c at 9w. Sac measured 6w6d.  My number jumped like your's did.  They were 19000 one day and 21000 two days later.  Dr. said not a good sign.  Was yours up and then went down and up again?

by kris123, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
Like law and 5preg said if they are going up and never went down your fine.  If you're not bleeding even better sign. Keep your head up go get your u/s on Monday and pray.  Hope all goes well keep us updated

Thanx Ladies!!  I really needed reassurance. ((hugs))

by deanne11, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
Yeah - you are way to early to worry...Your numbers look fine to me.

I made my drs give me 3 u/s before I believed them that I indeed had a m/c but mine was not a blighted ovum.

If they still don't see a fetal pole and hb next time I think you should request one more u/s a week after your next which I believe you scheduled for Monday.

No cramping or bleeding as of right now, correct?

by kiesha.b, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
correct!(smile)

doesnt look like your numbers doubled as they're supposed to, but that doesnt necessarily mean anything... mine didnt either.

by MelzieWelzie, Oct 20, 2006 12:00AM
I've read that 15% of pg's don't double like they're supposed to.  I like the way this Dr. explains it at the following link:

http://blogs.webmd.com/pregnancy-and-infertility/

Try to stay positive!  As long as you're not bleeding or cramping, everything should be fine.  I hope you have a healthy pg!

update...  My doctor finally called!  She said everything is fine and not to worry.  She said as long as there not going down then everything is ok.I was glad to hear that.  Now im just ready to see my "little bean" on Monday!  Thanx a bunch!
