vaginal bleeding after a c-section

by leeannadoyle, Apr 13, 2009 12:34AM
i had my 4th c-section 17 days ago. after each of my other births, my bleeding only lasted 7 days. 4 days after my last birth (3-26-09), my vaginal bleeding had slowed down & was light red, like it's supposed to get. however, the bleeding didn't stop, and after the 10th day, when i thought the bleeding might have stopped, it got a dark red, almost black color. there haven't been any clots, and i haven't been bleeding any heavier, but i'm not sure if this is okay or if i should talk to my doctor.

if you feel like somehting isn't right, you should definately call your doc and see if they can squeeze you in.
after my c-section i bled quite a bit the first 4-7 days, then moderate to light for the next 3-4 weeks.
each women and each of her pregnancies/births are different...so there's no way to say if what you're experiencing is 'normal' or 'abnormal'
call  your doc!

Sometimes if you exert yourself a bit too  much, you might bleed a bit harder.  If it becomes heavy or has clots, or if you are simply worried, you should let your MD know.

I agree with the previous posts... you might as well double check with your doc.  After my c-section, I bled for a week with it tapering off near the end of the week, but then it picked back up again and got heavier for the next 10 days or so.  When I called my doc, he said that as long as there weren't any large clots, I was ok (but it could be different for each individual).

i didn't stop bleeding until almost 6 weeks after my last c-section.  it was also my 4th...  but i don't remember how long i bled for after my others.
