vanishing twin/hemorragic sac

by stephie1255, Jul 21, 2004 12:00AM
Hi, I am currently 12 wks pregnant and have been diagnosed by my doctor as having vanishing twin syndrome.  One baby is fine and viable the other sac is now filled with blood.  My doctor says there is nothing I or he can do to remove or aleviate the bloody sac.  He says if it does not disipate on its own I will have to birth a dead fetus and a healthy one.  I have been for numorous sonograms my most recent is showing that the blood sac has grown considerably.  my question is I can not find any info regarding this situation or any similar cases of this happening.  I have two healthy children and had normal pregnancies with both.  Is there a cause for this and what are some other treatment options that I may have?
Thanks

I don't know the cause, but I have seen lots of ladies at term who were originally diagnosed with vanishing twin.  Most of the time, you can't even identify the remaining sac by the time you reach term.

It will simply either be absorbed by your body, or scar down and be evident as a calcified sac attached to or adhered to your placenta.

They'll keep watching it via sono.
