what did the doctor mean

by boosty, Nov 29, 2007 12:37AM
i finally went to my u/s today. i am exactly 7weeks and one day. very natious. i am a bit confused. the doctor told me while looking at the u/s that its measuring smaller like a 6weeks. it looks fine, just measures and looks like a 6 week one. there was a heart beat. what does that mean? everytime i go in, i have a new thing to search about. i hate this. i have such a weird, nervous feeling about this pregnancy. i dont know why. i am hoping that i wont miscarry. i am so afraid of that this time for some reason. it hasnt happened to me before (knock on wood and thank God). any answers to what that means would help. thank you.

If there was a heartbeat i wouldnt worry. I would have to guess that you may have ovulated later than you thought and your dates were just inaccurate. An u/s is probably the  best way to determine actual gestation. Congrats tho! Its so exciting isnt it?

it is exctiting. but i hate myself for doing this, but for soem reason, i am scared dead this time and worry too much. i feel like something isnt right. i hope i am wrong. God, i hope.

my baby measured a week behind in the beginning too. she quickly caught up though (i think by 9 weeks). i think that just like outside the womb, they develop at different rates, and those measurements are estimates. plus, your dates are often based on LMP, not when you actually conceive, so that can make things a little off. anyways, sounds like you're doing good. congratulations!

Don't worry!! I am only 11 weeks and for all three of my past u/s, the dates were always off. In total I was off about a week and 2 days. You saw the heartbeat, so try not to worry, worrying is bad, just try to enjoy your pregnancy!! Congrats!!!

It could also be that you ovulated a few days later than you thought.  This happened to me since my LMP puts me at 11.5 weeks preggo but the ultrasound showed I am at 10.5 weeks .  Apparently, this isnt too uncommon and if you see a heartbeat, everything is going well!

The calculations of our LMP and the due date given by the doctor isn't usually accurate most of the time.  There is a 2 week window the doctor's work with.  As women go along with the pregnacy, some measure smaller or larger compared to where they should be.  There is nothing to worry about though and that all is fine.  As long as everything looks okay!  Congratulations on seeing the heart beat:)  Good luck...
