what is a good breast pump to buy?

by candy17, Oct 01, 2007 02:51PM
I need some opinions on what kind of breast pump to buy.  I have no clue where to start!  I've heard that some work faster than others which would be really helpful when I go back to work.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

i used a medela breast pump with my ds, electric so i could just sit and relax whilst pumping, i thought it was fantastic, on a bad day i could get 3-4ozs from both breasts, on a good day about 6ozs from both, never took anymore than 20 mins to pump either.

I have a manual and a medela... I love the medela and it is faster.  I still use both, one in the bedroom, one in the living room, and then keeping the manual in the car...

I have the medela pump in style and LOVE it,

are you planning on pumping often? if so, then invest in a medela pump in style advance. this was recommended by several lactation consultants because it has a feature where it starts out differently to stimulate the milk flow (similar to how a baby starts suckling). it's more likely to maintain your supply. so, if you're pumping exclusively, or very often, definitely go with the pump in style advance. if you choose another brand, make sure it's hospital grade, plugs into the wall (not battery or hand operated) and a double pump. if you are not planning on pumping often, you can go with something cheaper..

I hate to be the negative one here...but I'm not big on my Pump in Style! I have to be REALLY full to get even 4oz. Usually I only get 1 or 2 total when I use it. My little piggy takes 4 oz at a time when he bottle feeds and is full (usually) when he's done at the breast, so I know he's got to get more than 2oz. at a time like the pump does. Maybe I just had to high of hopes for the pumping.....

What is comfort nursing?

by 2songbirds, Oct 01, 2007 07:11PM
when the baby's not getting any milk, or very little from mamma and uses me as a binkie or to fall asleep with, or when he's upset and just wants mamma, like now
