what is chlomid??

by jimmysgirl, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
Hi all , i am posting this question to find some info for a friend of mine . Her and her fiance have been trying to get pregnant for five years now , she has had 2 m/c ,both have been tested and there seems to be no apparent problems with either of them . I have been on this site for a few weeks now , (im 17weeks pg with my first ) and i have read a lot of women talking about chlomid . I would just like to know what this is , if it's an over the counter thing or do you have to see a specialist for it or what ?? She is in the uk , would it be avaliable there ? I know i could check the internet but i like to hear peoples personal experiences first , i find it much more informative . So any info on this would be great , so i could pass it on to her . thanks girls xxxxx

Clomid is a prescription drug that stimulates ovulation.  I took 6 doses of it over the last year and am pregnant now.  I'm not sure about its availablity in the UK.

hey there I am on clomid right now I am on my 5th round and still not pregnant, but i have read alot of success stories. I started it orignally because i was not ovulating and now i am ovulating every month just not pregnant yet. I don't know if it would be avaliable in the uk but I got a Rx from by OB but i have run across websites that are talking about buying clomid over the internet but i don't know about that. The first day i start my period is day 1 then on days 5-9 i take two pills every day for those 5 days. Then on day 21 i have blood work done to see if i ovulated, and if I did I just have to wait and see if I start my period and if I do I just repeat it and keep my fingers crossed for better luck next time. Some people have side effects sick, dizzy, sore boobs things like that the only thing i have had is a little dizzy nothing to really bother me and sore boobs some but not much. A side effect of clomid is that it increases your chances of having twins or even more!!!

Yes, I am on my 5th round of clomid and I have heard that after your 6th round you should be taken off of it, I was just wondering what happens if you take it longer. I am also not pregnant so what would my other options be?

by marsxp, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
hi...i  was on clomid for about 4 cycles but never got pregnant..... maybe part of it ishaving bicornuate uterus.... i finally went to see an RE and next month we're going with IVF....

goodluck to your friend... i agree with the above posts that you could only be on clomid so much then you need to see a reproductive endocrinologist to find out why you're still not getting pregnant

good luck again...

My doctor said he'd keep giving it to me as long as I needed/wanted it.  I'd heard that if you weren't pregnant after 3 rounds it wouldn't work.  My third round I was on 150 mg. and still didn't get pregnant. I took a break for a couple months, tried to eat healthy and exercise, then started back up on 50 mg.  Two monts later, I'm pregnant.  So I guess just keep trying and don't give up!

Thanks for the info. I may consider taking a break after 6th round and try to relax. I stress every month waiting for my period and then when it comes i get all upset EVERY month. Thanks again!!!!

I live in the UK and got clomid quickly & easily on a NHS prescrition charge - 4 cycles for £7.00 (about $13.00).

I had 3 cycles and got pregnant I am 12 weeks now.

I had one mc before tha clomid at 9 weeks and was over a year trying when I got the clomid.

Good luck to your friend xx

Hey!!!! I take 2 pills on days 5-9, but the total of the pills is just 50mg so I don't know if it just does'nt come in 50mg or what I started out with one on days 5-9 but I did'nt ovulate until she uped it to 2 pills. But still no luck and like I said I am on my 5th round. I have'nt heard that if you don't have side effects it does'nt work, infact I have read success stories about people with no side effects and pregnant the 1st round. I am always looking up stuff about clomid and the success rate and all that. So you never know you may end up pregnant this month. Good luck to you!!!!!

It sound slike your friend has no trouble ovulating though if she has gotten pg twice. If she is ovulating, then clomid probably isn't the drug for her.  It sounds like she needs help sustaining the pregnancy rather than getting pg. Has she had her progesterone levels tested while pg to make sure that it's not too low?

Hi all,
My wife and I tried for 3 years and she could not get pregnant.  We both tested at clinic and no problems.  The doctor gave my wife Chlomid and she only took 1 dose (the very first dose), she was pregnant with a mixed twins.  We were so happy and WISH many ladies out there with lot of lucks and good results.  Chlomid did help us and now we try to spread the words to friends and others.
Happy Holidays and many babies!

my husband and i have been trying to get pregnant off and on for the last year, we still were having no luck so i went to my OBGYN and he determined that i didnt ovulate and told me that he wanted to try me on chlomid and metformin, We havent been able to try yet b/c i missed 2 months of my period so they have me on progestrine for 10 days to restart those and then we'll get to try. Were really excited and hope we get pregnant soon.

Any advice ?

I am really nervous...I have a Dr Appt to start Chlomid next Wednesday and based on everything I'm reading I'm not so sure I want to go through alllllllll of this...I am a very dedicated professional and would love to have a baby but I'm not so sure I can balance my work life and all of the Dr visits it sounds like this is going to take....is it as complicated as it sounds?? With 1st rounds, M/Cs, and failure...I'm really stressed now and I haven't even started....

what do you guys think?

Hi,
I recently just had my big appointment to start clomid,it's only the first round and with little or no side effects i feel very confident.Just the hope and success stories above should ease your nervousness and curiosity somewhat!

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 long years now but are determined that we are DUE some good luck soon.

I was nervous too! But i have now decided to turn it into positive energy.

My birthday is coming up soon just about the same time i will take a pg test so ya never know :)

Hope the appointment goes well.
