we used the Medela double electric pump. Expensive but works great, you do both at a time and it takes about 10 minutes to fill 2 bottles.

I bought an evenflo one and it broke after a week.  Now I rent one from our local hospital and its great!!!  Don't go cheap if you plan to use it going back to work.  I definitely suggest getting the best one even if it means spending 250 to 350.  But you might want to make sure that you are definitely going to pump and that you can (physically) before making a purchase.  My gf got a 350.00 pump and only pumped for a week and then got sick and stopped breast feeding all together and is now stuck w/ a pump.  good luck..

My sister bought the expensive one too and then couldn't breastfeed.  I'm still pissed that she gave it away...

My sister used Medela electric double pump and gave it to me since she stopped breastfeeding.  It works great, expensive but worth the money.  Maybe you should rent for the first month and see how the breastfeeding goes.  If it goes well, then great, buy it.

I had the medela on the go, it was built into a brief case.

I loved it.

Had no luck with hand pumps,

Definately the Medela double electric pump.  You will feel like a cow being milked but it works great.  I got the attachment kit at the hospital before we left the hospital, a $50 or so value and the nurses gave it to me.  We rented the motor part from the local pharmacy, I think it was about $175.00 for 3 months but was well worth it.  Get what you can for free from the hospital, pads, blankets, pump kit, etc.

I would recommend considering the Avent Isis IQ Duo or the Medela Pump in Style.  If your hospital rents pumps, it might be a good idea to rent one for 6 weeks or so to see how it goes, before investing so much money in a good pump.  I have an older Medela Pump in Style and liked it fine.  I also used the one from the hospital (Medela) and found it to be the same as the Pump in Style only much much heavier.  I was a home-tester for the Isis IQ Uno before it was released and really found that I liked being able to regulate my own pumping pattern.  Also, I used the Avent Via hand pump and like the fit and cushion of the Avent Pumps better, but until after my son was born, they didn't have any electrics to offer, so I don't actually own one of those.  Hope you find the right one for you!

Whatever you do don't get a pump that pumps too fast.  You need to make sure you do it for at least 15-20 minutes because it takes a little longer for the hind milk to come out.  The fore milk which comes out first is mostly carbs and protein while the hind milk contains mostly fat.
