what to expect on Clomid

by summer06, Oct 19, 2006 12:00AM
Today my dr putme on clomid. I asked what are the side effects and she said I might feel a little pain when I o and maybe some dizzeness. But reading everyones posts over the past few weeks it sounds like there are more side effect. I also have read that clomid can dry your CM up - but online and the dr didn't say anything about that. My questions are
1. what should I expect the side effects to be,
2. will my cm dry up and what should I use to make sure I do get enough cm,
3.and finally does clomid really work?

Thanks for you help!

1. It makes me very moody and hateful and my ovaries ache at times.

2. It very well may cause dryness.

3. Don't know still trying. This is my third differnt time to take clomid and this month will be my fourth cycle in a row of it.

I can answer your first 2 questions. I am on my se3cond cycle of clomid for anovulation. It works as far as causing ovulation. I had a migraine on my first cycle the whole time I was the pills and for a day after. I also tell you that I was told a little pain at ovulation but I was in that much pain I could barely stand for a few hours and then less pain for another couple of days. Second cycle I had no migraine and only a little pain at ovulation. So I figured the first was the worst. I have never had EWCM and on both rounds of clomid I have so it must be your body that decides weather or not it will dry up. As for does it work? I have heard a lot of sucess stories so it must. I am in my TWW and will keep you posted. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks girls. I tend to get migranes so I'm sure  I will get the headaches. Let me know how you make out!

I, too, have always had miagranes.  I'm not trying to give you bad news, but the headaches I have while on Clomid are FAR worse than any miagrane I ever had.  In addition to these terrible headaches, my mood swings are pretty scary...I even feel sorry for my hubby sometimes!!  Also, the hot flashes are annoying.  Hopefully you won't have all these symptons...good luck to you!!!!!

Hi Summer,

I had EXTREAME hot flashes, a bit of weight gain and plenty of FALSE pregnancy symptoms on clomid.  It's made me think not to think I'm preg.  I took a preg test today and I had a faint line and I don't even believe it.  I've been on clomid for 4mos and I have a RE apt tomorrow to see if I really an preg.  I will be so relieved if I am in more ways than one but I will also be relieved not to have to take clomid anymore.  I hope I'm not discouraging you but clomid made my body feel many things.

Good luck on the Dr visit tommorow. Not to get your hopes up but if their was a faint line then I would say it is a BFP let us all know how it goes. I am so excited for you.

Thanks tam2girls,

I really appreciate your words because I'm really tired of seeing my RE every week and the mechanical process of trying.  I really hope this is my month becuase I've tried everything, IUI, trigger, clomid, preseed, green tea leaves, flaxseed oil, PN vitamins, folic acid.  The reason I'm kinda doubting is because of the trigger shot I had it about 13 days ago and they say if it's in your system you can get a false positive.

I have dryness (no EWCM at all) and crabby, super emotional, and I did gain a little weight.  No luck as of yet after 2 cycles.

I just finished my first cycle on Clomid.  I was on it CD3-7.  On cycle day 4-5 I had a mild headache and TERRIBLE hot flashes.  My dr. told me to take Tylenol, and that helped, symptoms went away.  I had normal pain with ov and also no dryness, however, just in case, I ordered PreSeed off the internet.  I'll find out next week if it worked!  Wish me luck. I wish you luck.

Hot flashes!!!!! That's all I really experienced on Clomid.. It definately worked for me.. I had tried for 6 or 7 months and never got pregnant, I ovulated on my own, but very irregular. My cycles we're like 60 or longer, then I took Clomid once 50 mg and got pregnant with triplets!!!! So yes I believe it works.. hehe
