wheezing and asthma

by CYW, Feb 22, 2009 07:15PM
okay DS was diagnosed with asthma back in oct 08. he got a nasty virus..still getting over the cold part.. was having trouble breathing and coughing alot. we went to his pedi(specialized in asthma as well) and he put him on 10 ml of prednisolone once a day for 5 days as well as his normal blue pump but instead of every 6 hours, he needed it every 4 hours and his red pump once in the am and once in the pm accompanied by singulair and some nasal spray(which he had been on nasal and singulair since dec)

well he was getting better but now the prednisone is done and he is wheezing ALOT... it sounds like a loud snoring and you can feel it when you put your hand on his back or his chest...im not sure if i should be bringing him back in or what....what would any of you do..please those who have experience do not hesitate i am still trying to learn about this..being that it has only been 4 months...thank you

My son has had asthma since he was about 3 months old (he is now 14).  DS was the same as your DS, as soon as he would get off of meds, he would start wheezing again.  I ALWAYS took him back to the dr because you have to keep an eye on his oxygen level when they are wheezing like that.  Even now when he starts wheezing, we go in to the doctor.  They told me to watch his chest and if it is expanding alot when he is breathing normal, then he probably needs to be seen or if his heartbeat is fast.  I would recommend getting him back to the dr or ER if he is wheezing as bad as  you say.  Good luck and feel free to PM me anytime.  I have TONS of experience with sons with asthma.  Good luck, I hope Cameron gets feeling better soon.
