when did you get proper af after giving birth?

by snagglepuss1, Apr 14, 2008 09:00AM
hi.

my ds luke is 9+ weeks old now. i have not had af yet but did have some very light bleeding just under 2 weeks ago by very light i mean so light i didnt need a pad it was literally when i wiped after going to toilet for a couple of days there would be a very small amount of blood. nothing since and i dont even feel like af is looming. what is the latest anyone has got af? i got my first proper period with my other 2 kids 8 weeks after giving birth and my bleed time after all 3 has been roughly the same. is there a point when i should contact doctor if af doesnt show? any suggestions?

claire

I know it can just vary a lot from woman to woman. I have a 7 month old and I have not had AF come back yet.(I am breastfeeding, though)
On one of my kids it didn't come back until 10 months. But I know if youre not breastfeeding it definitely should come back sooner. But I don't think 9 weeks sounds out of the ordinary.

I nursed both my sons to some extent- with my first I was nursing not quite exclusively, but pretty close.  I got my af around 3 months.  With my second I nursed only for a short time and still didn't get it till around 9 weeks.  Each pregnancy is different, even if the first 2 were similar, the next one may not be.  Call your Dr. if you are worried, but 9 weeks is still pretty soon.
