there is no way to tell of the damage alcohol may do to our little beans it all depends on what exactly is forming in the particular minute that you drink.  If there is damage it would probably be to the brain as all the body parts are formed by 17w.  That being said.  Many of our mothers drank wine while they were pg with us.. back then they didn't say that it was bad.  We know better now so try not to worry, as there really is nothing you can do about it now.  And just take extra special care of your baby now to make up for it to him...  good luck, try not to beat yourself up about it or stress as that will only cause more difficulties for your little one.  The main thing I think about doing something minor once is not the damage it does but IF anything is wrong with your baby when it is born (god forbid) you will feel guilty for the rest of your life wondering if it was you that caused it.. an hell... that would suck to live with

Your baby will be fine. Many moms drink before they find out they are pregnant, I did with both kids.  As long as you care for your body from now on you and baby will be fine.

drinking before you find out you are pg is different.  They baby doesn't recieve anything from the mommies blood stream for the first few weeks but gets it nutrients from the yolk sac (natures way of helping the baby until we find out)  That being said there are many freaks that use all kinds of drugs that have babies that are fine it does not mean that all babies will be fine if their mom's use...  just because one baby was fine with the mom drinking does not mean they will all be fine.  it all depends on the exact development while the drinking occured.. and just because babies look fine does not mean it doesn't affect their brains...  I don't want to make her feel bad but I know that others that use will read this thread and I don't want them to think that it is ok and nothing will happen because fetal alcohol syndrome is real and it doesn't take drinking through the entire pg to occur

again I stress that in the first few weeks of pg.. the baby isn't getting the nutrients from the mom.. it is all disconnected at that time, no umbilical cord and placenta isn't formed.. it all changes after the first month...

Fetal alchohol syndrome would require the mother to drink several times a week throughout the pregnancy.  An occasional drink or two would not cause FAS.

However, what melemeli said is true, the baby begins pulling nutrients directly from the mother by 17 weeks.  So this is a critical time to be careful and to make sure you're only taking in the very best nutrients for baby.  Don't worry yourself too much, I think your baby is going to be fine.

not to beat a dead horse but it is something I often wonder about as a teacher when I see kids with difficulties

Fetal alcohol syndrome

Causes
When you drink alcohol, it enters your bloodstream and reaches your developing fetus by crossing the placenta. Because a fetus metabolizes alcohol more slowly than an adult does, your developing baby's blood alcohol concentrations are higher than those in your body. The presence of alcohol can impair optimal nutrition for your baby's developing tissues and organs and can damage brain cells.

The more you drink while pregnant, the greater the risk to your unborn baby. The risk is present at any time during pregnancy. However, impairment of facial features, the heart and other organs, bones, and the central nervous system may occur as a result of drinking alcohol during the first trimester, when these parts of the body are in key stages of development. In the early weeks of the first trimester, many women may not be aware that they're pregnant. Alcohol may affect the brain of the fetus at any time during pregnancy.

Two standard size drinks,  one time,  during your pregnancy won't have an affect on your pregnancy.

People are often  hesitant to say that,  because then mothers who are alcoholics might push it to two drinks a night,  etc.

If truly all you had is what you stated here,   your baby will not be affected.

i just had a natural mc last week, the doctor told that my 5 weeks fetus stopped developing, partly im blaming myself.Because i had some heavy drinks during christmas & new year holiday, but that was before finding out that im already weeks pregnant.Im really afraid, because i know what could possibly happen, & that's it! that's what happened, i miscarriaged, sad to say. im sure that the alcohol affected my baby.but i have no choice,i cant blame myself forever,i need to move on...& im ok now, eventhough sometimes i still cries.GOODLUCK!GOD BLESS
