Asthma

I grew up with Asthma and my parents said that I had it from the time I was 3 months old
But noone would diagnose me with it until I was almost 5 they said it was
because I was to young. Well I now have a 6 month old who has had 3 episodes
of viral bronchitis and we have had him on the breathing treatments at home and
he was also in the hosptial in April. My question is how old do you have to
be before they will tell you that you have Asthma now?  The doctor that I go to
said she wouldn't until he was aleast 2.  I think this is really stupid.
He stays sick all the time with some type of lung problems. Do I need to change
doctors or what. Thank you for your help  Rachel
