Dear Lisa,
Ovulation occurs in most women 12-16 days before menstruation begins (ave. 14 days). Ovulation can be detected by ovulation detection kits and basal body temperature graph plots. The shift from lower to highter temperature identifies ovulation. Home pregnancy tests may be positive as soon as the day of the missed period but it may take 17 days. I suggest you wait three days beyond the day you expect your flow to do the test. It may take a few months to begin ovulation after you stop the pill. The best time to have intercourse is the day before and a couple of days after ovulation, intercourse is recommended every other day.
