Birth COntrol Pills

by Shanon__0, Aug 18, 1998 12:00AM

How long will it take my cycle to regularize after I stop taking birth control pills?  How long will it take before I first ovulate?
  Thanks
_____________
Dear Margie
The length of time that it takes to resume ovulation after stopping
oral contraception can vary. Some women will ovulate with 2-3 weeks
after the last pill withdrawal and others will have several anovulatory
cycles first.
In general, the return to ovulation often can be predicted based upon your
menstrual pattern prior to going on the pill. That is, women who had regular,
ovulatory cycles before typically will afterward. Women who were irregular
and/or anovulatory before will typically return to this pattern.
Probably the best indication of a return to ovulatory cycles is
regular cycles (i.e. menses occur around monthly at the same time).
Hope this helps.
