Bleeding During Sex

by Stephen__0, Mar 14, 1999 12:00AM

My wife is roughly 7 weeks pregnant.  We had sex for the first time today after learning about our baby. After we were through we noticed a trickle of blood on my leg that had come from my wife.  Later, when she went to the restroom, a little bit of blood came out and none has come out since.  Is this normal and should we have cause to worry?

Dear Stephen:
Bleeding after intercourse is not normal. It may be very explainable by local changes in the cervix (more superficial blood vessels) and have influence on the pregnancy, but it is still not "normal".
Refrain from relations until your wife can be evaluated (a clinical examination) by her obstetricial healthcare provider.
Keywords: bleeding, pregnancy, after sex
