Bleeding during pregnancy

Bleeding during pregnancy

I am in my 8th week of pregnancy and just last week I started spotting.  Previously I have encountered a UTI and Yeast infection and then the spotting started.  I have tests done and everything is okay with the baby thus far.  Is it normal to bleed during the first trimester?  I have spotting during the day once or twice, and during a bowel movement.  Does this suggest bed rest?  I will also check with my doctor but any experience or advice would help me ease my mind.  I had a previous miscarriage three months ago and I am very worried with this pregnancy.  I appreciate anyone who can take the time, thanks.
Dear Marie:
One quarter of women experience bleeding in early pregnancy and for one half of this group, there is no effect on the pregnancy.
Yeast infection can irritate the vagina and cervix to cause bleeding that is unrelated to the developing pregnancy. Urinary tract infection can be associated with bleeding that is from the bladder/urethra and not the reproductive organs. Hemorrhoids are the commonest cause of red bleeding associated with bowel movement and these dilated veins are more common during pregnancy.
You have had normal, reassuring tests and that is the best possible news.
