Blood clots after a Cesarean Section

Blood clots after a Cesarean Section

My wife had an emergency c-section on February 2nd, following the c-section(approx. 2 days) we noticed a clot forming on the inside of her left knee?  The doctor at the hospital treated this some while she was there with special 'air' socks, aspirin, and indomethacin.  She has stopped taking the Indomethacin, but is still taking aspirin and using a heating pad four times a day.  The clot has decreased in size since we left the hospital on the 5th of February, but has not improved in the last four weeks.  My question becomes how long is a 'normal' expected recovery time and is there any other meds she could be taking to help the process?

Dear Mike:
I am guessing that the diagnosis was superficial thrombophlebitis: a blood clot in a small vein, perhaps even a varicose vein, immediately beneath the skin. These heal forming a "knot" in the vein and it takes months for the vein to either collapse or to resolve the scar and reopen.
