Brown spot on tongue

by Laurie__0, Jan 29, 1999 12:00AM

  I noticed today that my 3 1/2 month old has a brown spot
  just to the left of the tip of her tongue.She seems to be breastfeeding okay.
  Do you have any ideas what it may be?

Dear Laurie ;
A small flat spot would be similar to a skin nevus ( called lentigines or lentigo ) although this condition is more commonly seen in older children and there would be more than one lesion. consider getting a health care professional to see it during your baby’s routine physical, measure it’s size and document it .In case it grows in size , bleeds easily  or changes in color , a dermatologist may need to be involved.
Thank you for your question
