by Jenifer__0, Oct 17, 1998 12:00AM

I am supposed to start taking fertility drugs tonight but just in case the doctor had a hgc test done to make sure I am not pregnant. The result was
-5 What does that mean? I havent had a period in 2 months due to past lupron shots. last shot was 10 weeks ago. Can you get pregnant even if you dont have a period? Also before starting provera to induce period I had a sense that I might be ovulating. I took a ovulation predictor test and it showed a surge. we had sex just in case pregnancy is possible. What so I do now?
dear Jennifer:
One can ovulate without a menstrual period: the ovulation sets the system to have a menstrual period.
In ladies who are receiving drugs such as Lupron, the reproductive system has been put into a quiet state and it would be very unusual for you to spontaneously ovulate. As one stops suppressive drugs and allows the reproductive hormones to reawaken, there can be an overshoot that gives false positive tests when one does urine ovulation detection testing.
I encourage you to talk with your physician before you do any further home tests. These tests can give misleading results in ladies being treated with suppressive and fertility-enhancing medications.
