Ciprofloxacin

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant.  I have been prescribed an anti-biotic for an infection (Ciprofloxacin).  I have about 6 more days to go until my period is due and I'll know whether this month was successful or not.  If I am pregnant, should I be avoiding this medication.  Does anyone know this risks?
Dear Molly:
Ciprofloxacin is a category C drug: there are no human studies and inadequate animal studies to know the safety of the medication in pregnancy. The available animal studies did not show any association with malformations.
There are no medications in which the effects during the two weeks between ovulation and identification of pregnancy have been studied. During this interval, an insult to a developing pregnancy is usally completely repaired or the pregnancy is never established.
