Discharge during intercourse

by Lyn-S, Oct 07, 1998 12:00AM

The last time I had intercourse with my fiance, I experienced a very heavy, sticky discharge.  I am 18 weeks pregnant.  It was in essence, a gush of fluid.  I am concerned that it was the bag of waters.  Is there anyway to tell without getting everyone concerned?  I have had no cramping.
Dear Lynn S.
Fluid loss at 18 weeks pregnancy is most likely from the vagina or the cervix. Amniotic fluid is thin, not sticky.
There is no test that you can do yourself to diagnose rupture of membranes. It requies a vaginal examination to recover fluid for testing or an ultrasound image.
