Dear Mikayla:
The recommended dosage for women who have no history of a family member with a neural tube defect (spine formation problem) is 400 micorgrams (ug) which is 0.4 mg. In ladies who have had a baby with a neural tube defect or in women taking antiepileptic drugs, the recommended dose is 4.0 mg.
A single source of supplement is adequate.
Keywords: folic acid, dose
