Fundal height and total placenta previa

by Cecile__0, Jul 21, 1998 12:00AM

I was diagnosed with total placenta previa at 20 weeks but have not ezperience bleeding.  During my recent check up at 33 weeks five days, my fundal height was only 31.  Is this within normal range?  Im worried that the growth of my baby has slowed down.  Below are my past fundal measurements:
  20. 5 weeks - 21
  24.5 weeks - 24.5
  29.5 weeks - 29
  Thank you.
Dear Cecille:
Placenta previa diagnosed by ultrasound image is very common in the middle of pregnancy. The placenta moves towards the fundus of the uterus and away from the cervical os (opening) in most women. Bleeding is uncommon until the last third of pregnancy.
The fundal height measured in centimeters approximates the age of the pregnancy measured in weeks. There is a normal variation in growth of unborn babies just as there is variation in school children. Variation of 2 centimeters in a single observation is not concerning.
