HCG levels continuing after miscarriage

by Dona-M, Sep 30, 1998 12:00AM

I had a miscarriage on 7/14/98, did not have a D&C but let it happen
naturally so I have to continue to get HCG levels weekly.  It has been
about 2 1/2 months since the miscarriage and my HCG level is 16.  It
has been going down but only a little at a time.  It started at 28,000.
I had what I thought to be a period on 9/11/98 which last approximately
  12-13 days.
  What could this signify.
Dear Donna M:
hCG levels decline slowly following a miscarriage. It takes 35-42 days following surgical removal of the "products of conception" for the hCG level to disappear and it takes 6-8 weeks for menstrual cycles to resume following a surgical interruption of pregnancy.
The timetable you present appears normal. You are resuming menses at the expcted time following miscarriage.
