I posted a question but...

by Julie__0, Mar 15, 1999 12:00AM

I posted a question before but did not give a message subject.  Will it
still be posted?  Also, I think I submitted it a couple of times by
  accident and wanted to apologize.
I also was curious: my last pregnancy I had Group B strep.  I delivered
very early and had not yet been cultured for it; my baby became very ill
as a consequence.  I am pregnant now.  Will I again be positive for Group B
Strep, how can I know, and what can be done?

Dear Julie:
Past infection with group B streptococcus is a risk for infection in a future pregnancy. The bacterial colonization is detected by culture of the cervix. The organism is sensitive to penicillin. There are several management protocols: treat during pregnancy; wait until the time of delivery to treat.
Keywords: group B strept
