I question the practice of my doctor!

by Michele__0, Mar 19, 1999 12:00AM

In March 1997, I gave birth to a handsome baby boy.  My concern is......
First of all, I cherish my ob/gyn. I think he is wonderful but I don't know if I should be concerned with the way things went with my first baby.
I originally was due on March 10th then it was moved to the 15th.  I did a fertility cycle and I know exactly when I concieved.  I did not think 5 days would have made a difference though so I did not say anything since being pregnant was great to me anyway.  On March 15, 97, I was having contractions.  They were 4 minutes apart -very consistant-  however, they were not very strong at all.  I called my doc and he told me to go to the hospital.  About an hour after we arrived...the contractions stopped.  I was sent home.  We had planned on an induction the 17th anyway because I am small and my baby was way to big for me.  So Monday came and my doctor came in and broke my water and low and behold....my little boy had a bowel movement.  I truly think he was past due and he was stressed out also.  I was only  in labor for 11 hours and labor was great and basically uneventful.  Then after birth...he mentioned to the nurse about a strep B culture.  It came back positive.  Therefore, my son had to stay in the hospital for a week.  He tested negative but he pediatrician said we should let him stay just as a precaution and was given antibiotics for the whole week.  I don't remember him doing a culture on me during the pregnancy.  Then once I was released from the hospital..needless to say..I stayed up there with my baby most of the time.  I noticed that I had something irrating me at the vagina.  I called the nurse and she looked at it and said it was nothing.  Bologna...I felt something hanging down and it was bothering me something awful.  I later found out that it was just part of the external vaginal area.  I had to have it removed from another doctor because my ob/gyn would not remove it.  I was wondering if these things that went wrong were something that I should not worry about or should I consider changing doctors.  However, I think it might me a bit to late as I am due on June 6, 99 with my second child.

Dear Michelle:
The events you describe do not raise red flags to me. They are issues that are bothering you: have you discussed them with your physician?
