I have had about the most long drawn out
miscarriage I have ever heard of. I have two wonderful healthy children already, and this was my 3rd pregnancy. The

At 8 weeks of pregancy, apparently the fetus died. I didn't find this out until 12 weeks when I began
spottingVaginal bleeding between periods. I had an ultrasound that showed this. Well, they sent me home saying I'd miscarry in two weeks. I went home and didn't miscarry. I'd told the dr. that I'd prefer to naturally miscarry since I'd heard that D&C's can cause future problems in pregnancy. (I never dreamed it would take this long!) After following my decreasing HCG levels for 10 weeks (I was down to about 235), they started going back up! So then the Dr. had me go in for a D&C when I would've been 22 weeks along. (I sure didn't look it, though.) A week after the D&C my HCG was at 58. Then, 2-1/2 weeeks after the D&C, it went UP to 110! A week after that, it was 128. So now it is 4 weeks after the D&C and the Dr. is now saying that I should get a
methotrexateMethotrexate
Methotrexate sodium
Methotrexate sodium, preservative free shot. He says that apparently the tissue wasn't reached by the D&C (possibly embedded in the
placentaAnatomy of a normal placenta

Ultrasound, normal placenta - braxton hicks
Ultrasound, normal relaxed placenta.) My doctor also told me that the
methotrexateMethotrexate
Methotrexate sodium
Methotrexate sodium, preservative free has NO side effects.
My problem is this - first of all, ALL drugs have side effects. Maybe they are rare, but all drugs do. So I don't know why my Dr. would tell me flat out that it has NO side effects even after I questioned him on that. And is it possible that my dr. just did a bad job at the D&C? I'm just getting really frustrated with this whole deal. It's terrible to have a miscarriage, and then to have it drag out this long just makes it all the worse. So do I need to get a new doctor or is this the best option? Does it sound like this doctor is doing the best thing for me? Can methotrexate cause problems for future pregnancies (or getting pregnant? Are there any other options?
Thank you!
