Low Blood Pressure during pregnancy

by Kim-Latimer, Feb 11, 1999 12:00AM

I am 37 yrs old and somewhere between 8 and 9 weeks pregnant.  I have noticed that my blood pressure has dropped considerably and am worried if this is normal.  My first visit, it was 110/70, my second visit, it was 105/55 and on the third, it became 95/50.  What is going on with my body and is this normal?  The doctor said I could return to work without any restrictions.  Is this really okay?

Dear Kim:
Blood pressure often falls in pregnancy due to the progesterone effect causing vessel wall relaxation.
The concern is blood pressure elevation.
