Menstrual Cycle after c-section

Menstrual Cycle after c-section

I had a baby girl eight months ago and since her birth I have extremly
light periods. Before I was pregnant my cycle was irregular but heavy and
lasting around five days. Now I only have to wear a pantyliner and that is
still to much of a pad. And they only last for about one or two days out of the month. After having her home for about a month, I had severe adominal (abdominal) pain and went to the emergency room where a obgyn told me I had severe scarring that had to be removed before I can become pregnant again. So my questions are:
1)Should I be checked out for abnormalities resulting from my c-section?
2)Can a doctor really tell how much scar tissue you have by just pushing in on your stomach?
3)What should I do about my situation?
Thanks for any help that you might be able to send me.

Dear Annie
It is not uncommon for a woman's menstrual cycles to change after childbirth, whether normally or by cesarean. Assuming that the cesarean delivery was uncomplicated (i.e. there was no infection, etc), your cycle changes probably cannot be attributed to the procedure. I believe the changes you are describing are well within the range of normal after a pregancy and delivery.
It has not been my experience that it is possible to determine the exact nature (or presence) of "scarring" within the pelvis by bimanual examination.
