My son needs to be circumsiced

  Hi I was wondering if you could answer a fewq questions for me.  My three yearld son needs to be circumsieced and this scares me awful.. I know that they put them out with anestesia.  I need to know if I should have a pediatric surgeon do this or could a regular doctor do this.
  I know people say that there is nothing to this operation, but it is for me.  I know it is going to hurt him.  I was wondering how they do this.  I think it is done on an out patient basis.  I would like my son to go in real early in the morning if htis is hte case and leave closer to evening so they can watch and make sure that infection doesn't set in.  
  What would be the things to look for if there was an infection?

A surgeon , sometimes a urologist , can be chosen for this very simple procedure. Most children have it done under general anesthesia ( newborns continue to have it under local anesthesia in most centers )on a one day postoperative Observation basis ( same day surgery ) . Timing can be discussed with the surgeon at time of referral. Risks of infection are minimal , especially with careful observation as these procedures are always done under strict sterile conditions. Signs of infection would be increased pain , swelling around the cut foreskin, purulent discharge , increasing redness and fever over a period of a few days .
