Pregnant or not?

by Eydie, Sep 30, 1998 12:00AM

  Hello,
I have a question conerning these HCG levels? I had to take my wife to the ER on 99/03/03. They told us that the pain she was having was due to Kidney stones, which was seen on the IPV test.  But they also told us that she was Pregnant. Her HCG level was 35.  But her LMP was 15 Jan.  Plus I have had a Vas.  She skipped Feb.  but we think it is due to stress because of a death in the family?  What do you think? Please help! We already have 4 childern.

Dear RG:
A quantitative hCG level of 35 is well above the 2-5 mIU/ml that is the level of detection of hormone. This value is consistent with either an early evolving pregnancy or a pregnancy that is spontaneously resolving.
Vasectomy and tubal ligation both have a small, but nonetheless very real and measureable, failure rate. Stress can interrupt the menstrual cycle. However, the most common reason why a woman fails to have a menstrual period, hands down, is pregnancy.
Keywords: missed menstrual period and positive hCG
