Question about D & C

Question about D & C

I had an ectopic preganancy removed on Aug.16, 1998.  I also had 'something' in my uterus.  The Dr. said it was a pseudo-gestational sac due to the ectopic....what is the difference between a pseudo-gastational sac and a blighted ovum?
I had a D & C performed also.  How long until I should start my period?  I have been having cramps the last few days but nothing has come.
  Thank you for your time
Dear Collette:
An ectopic pregnancy is within the fallopian tube. The hormones from the placenta and the ovary stimulate the lining of the uterus and the lining can form a appearance on ultrasound imaging that resumes the gestational sac of early pregnancy: we call this a pseudo (translation, false) gestational sac. It is really the swollen lining of the uterus that traps some secretions within the folds so that it looks like a sac of fluid.
A blighted ovum is a real gestational sac (a fluid-filled, membrane that is separate from the lining of the uterus) that does not contain a baby.
Following pregnancy, it takes an average of 6 weeks for return of menstruation with a range of 4 to 12 weeks.
Cramping can occur as the uterus shrinks in size: even with an ectopic pregnancy, the womb grows under the influence of the changed hormones from the pregnancy.
