I came off the pill in November and have been trying to conceive.  My periods have always been regular and short.  I ovulate day 15 or 16 and get my period day 27 or 28 which lasts 4 days.  Occasionally I spot on a tiny amount a day or two before.  My doctor performed a post coital exam yesterday which had great results and everthing else is fine eg sonogram.  He told me however that my luteal phase should be 14 days and that 12 days is not normal and that I will require tests.  He terrified me and didn't explain what these tests would be.  After reading your website I realise that I can have either a blood test or endometrial biopsy.  Does this sound like he is overeacting or do you think I should have these tests done?  And do I start with the blood test or do I have to have the biopsy as well?  Many many thanks.

Hi.  I had a luteal phase defect and it was diagnosed by blood tests.  I was able to extend my luteal phase with clomid therapy and I became pregnant and took vaginal progesterone through 10 weeks of pregnancy.  I hope this helps.

I ovulated on day 18 and I am now very happily pregnant.  I took Vitex (ChasteTree Berry and vitamin B6).  According to the book "Take Charge of Your Fertility" anything less than 10 days for a luteal phase is a problem.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to conceive.  I also recommend the web site http://members.tripod.com/~ttcfaq/menu1.html
