Hi Kathryn.  I have been charting for 12 months, and I've discovered that when I take my temp in the a.m. has a pretty big effect.  The earlier the better!  Out of curiousity I have even gotten up at 4 a.m. to see what it is.  It is always lower earlier, until after I "ovulate", when it is much higher all the time.  An EXCELLENT book about temp charting is called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler.  I can't recommend it enough!!  I'm sure you can find it at amazon.com if not at your bookstore.
