chance of the newborn developing complications that could lead to early death but properly diagnosed, she needs to pump up on I.V. anti-biotics : My 6 month pregnant wife came back from her check up today and was diagnosed with Beta Strept. I can't find anything on the web about this bacteria. She is told that if this went un-noticed there would be a 30% during delivery to reduce the risk to the baby. Any info greatly apreciated.
_David, My grandson was born with severe gbs infection.  My daughter was given antibiotics when she developed a fever 8 hrs after onset of labor.  My grandson had been exposed for 8 hours due to the fact that my amniotic fluid and broken.  Baby stopped breathing and was intabated and checked for infection. We were told that the Dr. did not expect him to live. He was in ICU for 2weeks and is now 14 months old. If you check under GBS and infant you will find info on this condition. Hope this is of help.  Antibiotics at onset of labor protects baby.  Good luck.
