I recently found out that I was pregnant but having low abdominal pains after visiting the doctor and having a test and scan he diagnosed ectopic pregnancy so the next day I had the pregnancy terminated using a suction method, even though the tube did not rupture I am now worried that any future pregnancy may be affected,I am married and have taken a course of anti-biotics but we are worried about the risk to future pregnancy, I have not been able to get any straight answers about a case were the tube was not damaged by bursting please could you advise me ?
Dear Dawn:
Following an ectopic pregnancy that is removed from the fallopian tube, the likelihood that future pregnancies will be in the uterus is about 60%. There is an increased risk for a second ectopic pregnancy in the same tube, perhaps as high as 15%. In some patients, the tube fails to function in the future and intrauterine pregnancy is permitted by the opposite fallopian tube.
