Two years ago I had thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. I was treated with plasma infusion (didn't work), and then plasma pherisis (with steroids, vincristine etc.) I had 38 treatments of plasma pherisis. My platelet count dropped below 1,000. My hematocrit dropped to 5.0. I was very sick.
I was in the hospital being treated for 10 weeks. My hematologist said I shouldn't have a child because I could come out of remission. I'm an otherwise health 28-year-old woman. My husband and I would like to have a child. What is the general experience with women having babies after having this disease?
Thank you.
I read with interest your note Pam.  My daughter got TTP after delivering identical twin boys.  She almost died.  It was very scary.  Unfortunately we can't seem to get a lot of answers.  Would you be kind enough to share with as your experience with TTP please?  She is still going through the  plasmapheresis on an outpatient basis.  She had a second death experience from the third plasmapheresis using fresh frozen plasma (FFP) so they started using albumin.  It has worked and her platelet counts are way up now.  My questions concern what can she expect in the future.  Would you please share with us.  Thank you in advance for your kindness. ***@****
