: Hi everyone I am wondering whether or not I could be pregnant.  My husband and I had sex on the &th of February and I started bleeding on the 12th of February fairly heavy for about 18 hours and then spotted only when I would wipe myself after going to the bathroom.  My period was not suppose to start until the 21 of February I am nevery early I have always been a couple of days late and most often at least a week or so late. This is very odd for me.  Oh by the way the condom did break.  Other than that I would not be worrying about it.  I felt nauseated around the same time I started bleeding but thought that was due to maybe ovulation.  My breast were very sore too.  But i have stopped spotting now for three to four days now and I am still very nauseas and my breast are incredibly sore.  Was this my period and it is just screwed up.  When would I take a pregnancy test after the 21st of this month or a month from the time I started spotting which one would be the most reliable.  If I don't have my period on the 21st or a week or so later what does this mean.  Has my cycle just changed all of a sudden.  I may be paranoid and these feelings that I have may because I so not want to be pregnant right now.  I am 28 years old and already have two sons one is 9 and one is 3  I so wanted to wait at least a couple of more years before I took this big step again.  I guess my answer is when would I take the pregnancy test?
Thank you

Dear Melinda:
A pregnancy test becomes reliable 17 days following ovulation. February 7 is 14 days before February 21. If you have not started a menstrual flow by February 25, pregnancy testing should give an accurate answer.
