Last cycle I am about as certain as one can be without test-positive proof that I was pregnant but my period came as usual so I am assuming I had a miscarriage. However, I am still experiencing some nausea and was wondering, if this is an ectopic pregnancy could I have my period and still be pregnant or would my period have stopped as in a normal pregnancy?  I am charting my temperatures.  Do the estrogen levels stay up in an ectopic pregnancy as with a normal pregnancy or can the ectopic pregnancy continue even with a drop in temperatures?
Dear Karen:
Your question does not mention a pregnancy test. This is the key to knowing whether you are dealing with any type of pregnancy.
Both a uterine pregnancy and an ectopic pregnancy can begin with bleeding that appears at the time of the expected menstrual period. In both a uterine and an ectopic pregnancy, the "estrogen levels" are elevated asthe estrogen is being produced by the trophoblast (early placenta). A basal temperature remains elevated with both an ectopic and a uterine pregnancy because the trophoblast is also producing progesterone.
Nausea is a common symptom with many causes. Do a pregnancy test: a negative test makes any type of pregnancy very unlikely.
