My 17 yo daughter is 15+ weeks preg.. She had U/S that showed placenta previa, as well the placental growth seemed to be unusually enlarged. She was advised to return  4 weeks for routine check-up and for another U/S in 2 months, barring any unusual sx.
-->I have never heard of an over-sized placenta....what causes this and is it indicative of more serious problems?
Previous to becoming pregnant, she was taking Zoloft for anxiety/OCD, she discontinued the med nearly three months ago.
--> can Zoloft cause problems during first trimester?
--> Is it safe for her to resume Zoloft? Her OBGYN says yes...her Psych says no...
Your help would be appreciated!!
A concerned Mom......
Dear  VJO:
Placental size varies. An enlarged placenta can be associated with issues such as diabetes and erythroblastosis (blood group issues between mother and baby).
Zoloft is a drug on which we have no data to assure safety and use should be based on need. Fifteen weeks is outside the time of organ formation and therefore the risk of causing abnormalities is small. The psychiatrist is the person who should judge whether benefits of the drug outweigh even the theoretic risks.
Keywrods: placental size. zoloft

Okay, If I understand you correctly, you are talking about gestational diabetes, RH compatability...right? Isn't it common practice to test for these today?
