I am 2 1/2 months pregnant with my first and have been reading all the books I can get my hands on.  All of them have said that it is preferable to sleep on your left side with a pillow between your knees and under your belly.  They have all said that sleeping on the left side is better than the right side but none have said why.  I understand about sleeping on my side but why is the left better than the right?  I would appreciate it if you could shed some light on this for me.

In early pregnancy, sleeping on your left side (where your stomach is located) is supposed to help with the nausea and stomach upset while you are trying to sleep.
