my son, age 3, since he was about 1 and walking has had a problem. almost everytime he hits his head, (harder than normal) such as tripping or falling out of bed, he will start to cry then take a deep breath, and pass out then he won't breath at all. If we shake him like we are trying to wake him, he will usually start breathing after about a minute. Dr.s have told us not to worry that he will be fine as long as he continues to revive himself, but I've heard that this is a siezure of some sort, but the dr.s are saying that it's not possible. We have lowered his bed to one mattress on no frame and gotten rid of the bunkbeds(he slept on the bottom, but anytime he hits his head I'm scared to death. Please Help!!!!

Thanks for all the input, I rrealized that I failed to mention that he goes rigid after he passes out. I don't know if this makes a differance but I thought I'd add it.

I have posted before and I know everyone says that he is doing this on purpose because he is mad and having a tempertantrum.  You did not mention that he did this when he had a temper tantrum.  You mentioned that he did this when he cried real hard.  I am no doctor but my son tends to do hte same thing but does not pass out just acts like he doesn't get enough air.  Sometimes he will vomit. Maybe I am a little paranoid according to all the other post because they seem to think that it is normal but just to make you feel better you should maybe get a second opinion.  My son still does this but it doesn't seem to be quite as bad.  I have talked to the doctor and he has said don't worry about it either but I would say go with your intuition and have it checked by another doctor.

Melissa, I've done some research and spoke to my past Dr. and she has said that the Army Dr. we see now should look into siezures. This was my Dr. not A Dr. that treated my son. He does this when he hits his head not when he cries really hard, he usually only cries for about 3 seconds then passes out and you know the rest. Thank you for all your help.
